

He received his Bachelor's Degree in marketing from the University of Oklahoma in 1954. After graduation, JJ went into the Air Force and was on active duty for two years. He remained in the Air Force reserves until he retired in 1982 with the rank of Lt. Colonel. After completing active duty with the Air Force James began working at Skelly Oil Company and later Getty Oil Company as a Landman. When Getty was acquired by Texaco he worked as an International Negotiator traveling around the world. James retired from Texaco Oil Company in 1995 as Vice President for International Negotiations. James was a devout Catholic who lived his faith in all aspects of his life. He was an active member of Saint John Vianney Catholic Church. James spent countless hours volunteering with parish ministries including the food bank and counseling women on parole. He was also a member of the Sierra Club.
James married Mary Tighe on June 21st, 1958 and had two children, James, III and Kathryn. JJ is survived by his wife Mary; his son Jim and his wife Helen and their son Joseph; and daughter Kathryn and her husband Gary and their children Bailey and Matthew. He is also survived by four siblings: Joe, Paul, Terry and Mike.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family at six o'clock in the evening on Monday, the 8th. of June 2015, in the chapel of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. The recitation of the Holy Rosary is to commence at seven o'clock. A mass will be Tuesday, the 9th. of June at half past ten o'clock in the morning at St John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, Texas 77079 with Fr. R. Troy Gately officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date.
