James Michael Pate went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 15, 2018. Mike was born in Brady, Texas on September 3, 1948 and grew up in Houston, Texas. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1970 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. In 1971 Mike enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve and proudly served his country.
Mike’s first job after graduation was at Texaco Inc. His career in marketing took him to San Antonio, Texas, Austin, Texas, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Thirteen years later he became Branch Manager of Pony Express Courier Company in Houston, where in 1990, he achieved the company’s highest national award, Branch Manager of the Year. Several years later he successfully transitioned to self-employment in the transportation industry.
Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and travel. However, the study of the Holy Bible eventually became his greatest passion. Mike developed a strong spirituality and complete love for the Word of God through his study at bi-weekly classes and discussion groups at his church. He felt deeply indebted to the Bible scholars he encountered there, especially to his mentor Evelyn Brown.
Mike was a kind, gentle soul who loved his fellow man and was always willing to help anyone in need. Mike was a wonderful and giving husband. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy Pate, and his sister Barbara Stogner, as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Jack Pate.
