James (Jim) Bennett Quinlan of Richmond, Texas passed away on August 31, 2023 at the age of 75. He was born on April 6, 1948 in Glenridge, New Jersey. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Dorothy Quinlan; brother Don Quinlan; aunt Mary Jane Wooten and husband Leonard; father-in-law David Moneyhon, and brother-in-law Kean Jalowy.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Vicki Davis Quinlan; daughter Katie Quinlan; son Matt Quinlan and wife Katie; granddaughter Jordyn Quinlan; sister, Bonnie Michel and husband Frank; and sister Joan Garrett; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family that will miss him greatly.
After moving from Glenridge to Houston at the age of 4, Jim spent the rest of his life living as a proud Texan. As a kid, Jim loved playing baseball and collecting reptiles from the bayou behind his home, often bringing home turtles, snakes, and other creatures that piqued his curiosity. From 1962 to 1966, Jim attended Bellaire High School, where he played on the basketball team. Following high school, he moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas, where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1970 before returning to Houston where he would meet and build a wonderful family with his future wife, Vicki.
Jim was a devoted father, spending countless hours at youth sports matches and practices. He passed his love of baseball to his son and volunteered as coach, umpire, and president at the local little league. His daughter introduced him to soccer, which led him to many cherished friendships for years to come. Jim was a lifelong fan and supporter of the Texas Longhorns and Houston Astros, which he continued to faithfully follow through his final days.
Jim flourished in a long sales career, where he enjoyed building relationships with colleagues and clients that would last well beyond his working days. In retirement, he enjoyed quality time with his family and taking his favorite dog, Duke, for tacos on Saturday mornings. He loved regular meetings with his family and friends for early-morning breakfasts, and he always knew the best diners in town.
Jim bravely faced cancer twice and passed peacefully surrounded by his family. His kindness and unmatched humor will be greatly missed.
