

James Tyler Thomas was born on November 24, 1938, in Shongaloo, Louisiana, to Jess T. Thomas and Eardie D. Thomas. He attended Brown High School and later moved to Houston, where he earned his GED and began building a hardworking, steady life rooted in dedication and responsibility.
In the 1960s, James began his career with Grocery Supply, laying the foundation for a lifetime of service and commitment. He later joined JB Hunt as a truck driver, a profession he took pride in until his retirement in 2002. After retiring, James entered a new and joyful chapter of life when he met his wife, Earnesteen. They shared 21 years of marriage filled with love, companionship, and unwavering support.
James is survived by his three children: Jamie Shepherd, James Henry Thomas, and Lasandra Thomas. Also his sister Martha Jo. He also leaves behind his stepchildren: Arthur (Sabrina) Williams, Henry (Deborah) Boone, and Clifford and Gregory Williams. His memory lives on through his grandchildren, Charlette and Byron Thomas, as well as his step-grandchildren Breanna (Desmond) Duru, Jessica (Tahj) Mendoza, Lauren and Kennedy Williams, Kameron Boone, and Dylan Williams. He is also survived by his beloved great-grandchildren: Chyanne Thomas, Alexander Duru, and Camryn Duru, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended relatives who cherished him deeply.
In his free time, James found peace in the simple, quiet joy of fishing. He was an avid fisherman who could spend hours by the water, casting his line with patience and contentment. He also enjoyed watching football and basketball games and attending church, where his presence was steady, warm, and uplifting.
James will be remembered for his calm spirit, his love for family, and the gentle way he moved through life. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who loved him, and his memory will forever be carried like a soft ripple across the waters he loved so much.

A visitation for James will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Paradise Funeral Home, 10401 W. Montgomery Rd., Houston, TX 77088. A celebration of life will immediately follow from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The committal service will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Paradise Cemetery North, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088.
