

James was born in Houston, Texas, on November 19, 1984, to Randle Dean Thomas and the late Jeanette Marie Cunningham Thomas. He graduated from Spring High School in 2003. On July 14, 2012, he married the love of his life, Amy, and they shared 13 wonderful years of marriage.
James worked as an Operator for Covestro for the past 2½ years. Prior to that, he dedicated 17 years of service to Afton Chemical.
James loved spending time with his wife and their two children, Maybree (13) and Case (10). He enjoyed traveling, camping, and exploring new places. He was an avid fan of movies, especially
Top Gun: Maverick and A Few Good Men, and loved hunting, fishing, listening to his favorite podcasts, talk radio, and music. He also enjoyed riding around on the golf cart, visiting museums, serving as the caddy while others golfed, joking about not being a great bowler, hiking with his favorite hiking stick, and playing putt-putt, Rummy, catch with the baseball and football, and pickleball. More than anything, James cherished creating lasting memories with his family and friends.
James is survived by his loving wife, Amy; his daughter, Maybree; his son, Case; his father, Randle Thomas and wife, Virginia; his sister, Whitney Samadani and her husband, Amir; his in-laws, Dave and Karen Turk; his brother-in-law, Ben Turk and wife, Maggie; his nieces and nephews, Randi, Lane, and Landon Samadani, and Dottie Turk; as well as Eladio, Miguel, Manuel, Brittney, and Evelyn Salinas.
James was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanette Marie Thomas; his maternal grandparents, James Wesley Cunningham and Helen Marie Cunningham; and his paternal grandparents, Leo Mabry Thomas and Fannie Eugenia Thomas.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Brookside Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Case Thomas,Amir Samadani, Wally Cunningham, Tray Jones, Jason Cox, Dennis McKay and Justin Hendricks.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in honor of Maybree and Case to help assist with their future education expenses.
