From an early age, James developed a love for adventure and a deep joy for life. As a teenager, he began working at Marek Brothers Lumber Yard and saved enough money to purchase his first motorcycle—marking the beginning of a lifelong passion. He also shared his father’s love for cars, which remained with him throughout his life.
Over the years, James built a strong and admirable career. He worked for the Light Company, married, and was blessed with two children, James Angel Torres Jr. and Natalie Torres. His work later took him across the United States, Puerto Rico, and South America, where he embraced both the challenges and the excitement of travel.
James became a Master Electrician and worked for several electrical and commercial companies, eventually owning his own electrical service business. He spent the final 25 years of his career with IES, where he was the last employee to leave when the Houston shop closed—an enduring testament to his dedication and work ethic.
In 2016, James met the love of his life, Cristina Hinojosa. She moved from San Antonio to Houston to be with him, and they shared nearly 10 wonderful years of marriage.
James was known for his humor, his love of dancing, and his ability to make friends wherever he went. His deep voice and loud, joyful laughter made him unforgettable. Even after retirement, he never stopped working, continuing to mentor and inspire young electricians with his knowledge and experience.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished brother, and a beloved son. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the memories he created.
James will be remembered with love by all who knew him, including his wife, Cristina Hinojosa, and stepdaughter, Stephanie; his mother, Anna Torres; his sister, Irma Lancaster, along with her children, Torry and family, and Dustin and Paige; his son, James Torres, and his family; and his daughter, Natalie Torres, along with her children, Lex and Leah.
