The journey in this life for James Vincent Turner began on February 16, 1960 in Helena AR. He was the first-born son of Tommy and Patsy Turner. Born with a natural love of life and a friend to all, he attended Central High School in Helena graduating with the class of 1979. Vince was a Project Manager for the City of Houston which was his home for 40+ years but his heart was always in his hometown of Helena.
If you were fortunate enough to have Vince as a friend, you had something money could not buy. He had a way of brightening even the darkest of days. Always smiling and joking. Many of us saw Houston every morning on his videoed trips to work or enjoyed delicious cuisine from his cooking videos. Many of his “brothers” had a special bond and shared group chats where they did their part to bring a little humor to life. If a friend was in need, Vince was the first to step up and move mountains to help. He never made a trip back home to Helena that he did not visit the parents of the friends he grew up with. His fraternity brothers were always his family decades past high school and enjoyed weekend get togethers from time to time.
Many would say Vince had such a giving heart that he wore his out and received a heart transplant in August of 2021. He considered his donors family his family and had hopes of meeting and thanking them personally for the priceless gift they shared. Early this year his health started to decline. Even with all his medical problems, he still touched others. He may not have known this side of Eternity the testimony his trials and struggles had on others.
Vince had an unconditional love for his family that he cherished more than life which gave him the courage and the will to continue fighting to live. The love he had for his wife, two sons and daughter-in-law’s was immeasurable. Just when he thought life could not get any better the Lord blessed him with two precious grandchildren. He was the glue to the family. The first person we would call when we needed advice or someone to vent to. He had a way with words and could always make you laugh. We were blessed with the ability keep a smile on his face and even share a few laughs right up until the end. Vince’s journey ended on August 27, 2022, but the love and friendships he left behind will live in the hearts of all who loved him.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and Patsy Turner. He is survived by his wife Jolene, two sons, James (Taylor), Michael (Brittany); one brother, Lee (Jamie); two grandchildren, Joel and Zenni; two nieces and nephew, Ashley, Shelby, and Caleb; and countless friends. A special thank you to his wife, Jolene, who took care of him. A warm and compassionate thank you to the medical staff at St. Lukes hospital in the Medical Center who fought so hard for him and cared for him through the end of his journey.
There will be a celebration of life in Houston, TX at Advantage Funeral Home on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10:00 am. Another in his hometown of Helena, AR on Sunday October 9, 2022.
