He was born in 1926 in Garden Valley, Texas. He was married to his wife Billie Jean Mixon in October of 1947 and they lived together for 65 years in Houston, TX. J.D. was a World War II SeaBee Navy Veteran who served in Okinawa. He was a proud business owner of Word Fire Equipment and enjoyed his work as well as his family.
J.D. is preceded in death by daughter, Brenda Kay Ledger. He is survived by his loving wife, Billie J. Word; two sons, Bobby Word and wife Marilyn and Ronnie Word and Michelle; six grandchildren: Danny Word and Kelly; Priestley Ledger and wife Tanya; Brandie Sanchez and husband Kevin; Chris Word and wife Cicily; Nicole Bassett and husband Rob, and Ryan Word; 12 great-grandchildren: Danielle, Tristan, Falon, Colten, Sebastian, Braden, Christian, Ashton, Maeson, Rylan, Carter, and Brodie.
