

Jane Felice Moreland, 90, passed away on December 3rd, 2015. A resident of Houston for 55 years, Jane was originally from Philadelphia and moved to Texas in 1948. As a child, she spent her summers at the Jersey shore surrounded by cousins, aunts and uncles. She had a passion for music and dancing and loved to spend time with friends and loved ones. During WWII, she served her country by inspecting ship parts for the U.S Navy while attending Temple University’s School of Nursing. It was during that time that she met a handsome Navy Lieutenant, Richard William Moreland, whom she married in 1947 on Valentine’s Day.
Moving from Texas to Mississippi to Louisiana, the couple finally settled in Texas to continue raising their young family. In addition to being a busy mother of five who transported children to and from school activities, Jane was a firm believer in civic duty and was heavily involved in politics and community service. She was a campaign worker during George H.W. Bush’s first run for the U.S Congress, served on Harris County Grand Jury, was a busy member of the Delphian Society, and was a member of the Houston Junior League. She was a deeply spiritual person and was a founding member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. She volunteered as a spiritual director for the Cenacle Retreat House, taught CCE classes, and served as Eucharistic Minister.
Jane is predeceased by her husband Richard William Moreland Sr. and her daughter Karin Moreland Boeringa. She is survived by her children Richard Moreland Jr. and his wife Linda , Thomas Moreland and his wife Eileen ,Kathleen Moreland, John Moreland; her daughter-in-law Shirley Moreland; her grandchildren Matthew Moreland, Stephanie Parnell and her husband Landon., Andrea Dorr, Michael Boeringa and his wife Sandra, Matthew Boeringa and his wife Mary, Mallory Gable and her husband Robert, Kelsey Rich, Thomas Moreland Jr., Mary Hess, Krystal Stalk and her husband Chris, and Aaron Moreland; and her great-grandchildren Audrey Dorr, David Parnell, Joseph Boeringa, and Johnny Hess.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec 8 from 5-7 PM at the Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77024. Rosary will begin at 6:30 PM. Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, December 9th at 10:30 AM at St John Vianney Catholic Community at 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail. Interment to follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Donations in memory of Jane Moreland gratefully accepted at any Catholic Charities location.
