Jane Dees Overly, born on November 26,1925 to John Wesley Dees and Mamie Kathleen White in Philadelphia, Mississippi, has passed away on July 26, 2021 in Houston, Texas. Jane, 95, died from advanced dementia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Overly, her Son-in-Law, Rick Rolnick, and her grandson, Joshua Overly. She leaves 3 children, Kathy, Charley and spouse Sheila , and Cindy and spouse Stuart Diamond; as well as a grandson, Drew Diamond and a granddaughter, Hannah Overly.
Jane grew up in Eupora, Mississippi and then graduated from Ole Miss with a BA in Biology in 3 years, on a scholarship. From there she received another scholarship to begin Medical School at Duke. She left Duke with Masters Degree in Physical Therapy. She then moved to New York City to work at the State Rehabilitation Hospital with polio patients. In addition she attended NYU for post graduate work while there. Based on her work there she was offered a position setting up the newly constructed Crippled Children’s Clinics in East Texas, again to work with children with polio. It was during the polio epidemic before there was a vaccine.
While in East Texas she met Jim Overly and they were married in 1951. From there they lived in Midland, Odessa, and Houston. When the children were older, she went back to work as a Physical Therapist and did not retire until she was close to 80!
She will be buried at the Veterans Cemetery with her husband Jim in Houston. If anyone would like to donate, please help the studies going on in Dementia Research and Alzheimer's Research.
