Janelle Adams Simpson, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2024. Born in Houston on December 1, 1935, to Virgie and Robert Adams, Janelle attended Jefferson Davis High School where she was a member of the Carlton Cadets. Janelle worked for Exxon Mobil Corporation, formerly Humble Oil and Refining Company for decades. In her final years, Janelle was a resident of the Forum, where she made new friends and rarely missed a game of bingo or 42.
Her fun and funny nature, kind heart, faith, and great smile will be a source of great comfort and many memories for those who survive her. Janelle was a loving mother to her children, Susan Simpson and Steve Simpson (wife Morgan), and a proud Nana to her grandchildren, Connor Simpson and Ashley Simpson. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews, and treasured friends she considered family.
Janelle was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gordon Simpson, and siblings Joyce Faye Adams, Frances Crump, and Doyle Adams. Janelle loved to laugh, play games, love on her dogs, and spend time “piddling around” in the garden, but her greatest joy was her family.
A visitation for Janelle will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Pat H. Foley & Company, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. A funeral service will occur Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11:00 AM, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. A committal service will occur Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale St, Houston, TX 77023.
The family suggests that memorial gifts may be directed to Trees for Houston, the HSPCA, Friends for Life, or the Houston Area Parkinson’s Society.
