Janet Holman passed away on October 14, 2025, in Houston, TX. She was born on June 10, 1941, in Monroe, WI, to Jacob and Edna (Geigel) Rupp.
She is survived by her daughters, Laura (Steve) Furlong and Susan (Chris) Griswold, grandson Sam (Cristina) Furlong, and her sister, Judy Klassy. She was preceded in death by her husband, David, and four siblings: Betty Rupp, Kate Rupp, Eunice Miller, and Jacob “Bud” Rupp.
Janet attended UW-Platteville, graduating with a teaching degree in 1963. She met David there, and they were married on January 19, 1963, and settled in Milton, WI. Janet was a high school English teacher and then returned to UW-Madison, where she received her Master’s in Library Science. She worked for H&R Block for over 25 years as an office manager. She was the family chauffeur for sports practices, school plays, and many 4-H activities. She enthusiastically attended hundreds of swim and track meets as well as music performances, always encouraging Laura and Sue along the way. Janet was active in the local homemaker’s group, civic chorale, and Rock County 4-H. She volunteered many hours at the Rock County Fair and helped young sewers prepare for the fair.
Jan and Dave traveled throughout the United States and made several trips to Switzerland, from where her ancestors had emigrated. In retirement, they moved to Bloomington, IL, and finally left the cold behind when they moved to Marco Island, Florida, in 2019. After Dave’s passing, Jan moved to Houston. She was happy being close to family.
Jan loved the family Scrabble games. She was also an avid seamstress—a skill she used until the end. Her projects included the best Halloween costumes for her grandson. Every year, Sam would pick out whatever he wanted to be, and Grandma would make a wonderful costume for him. Throughout the years, she made many beautiful quilts and gifts for her family and extended family.
A ceremony to place Janet’s ashes will be held in the San Marco Catholic Church Memorial Garden, Marco Island, Florida, on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to join the service.
