On Saturday, April 11th at 1:40am, Janet Marilyn McGlamery was taken by God to be reunited with her family in her heavenly home. She was blessed with a peaceful passing in her home that she had lived in with her family for fifty-five years.
Janet was born on November 23, 1934 to Edgar and Bertha Waller. In financial terms they were not rich, but the love she experienced as a child and a young adult was beyond any monetary value. She had two loving brothers, Don and Paul, and they adored and doted on their young sister all through their lives. In pictures from her early life, there was an ever-present smile and she radiated beauty in a way that made people pay attention. She loved her father deeply, but she was every bit her mother’s daughter.
One fateful day in Sunset High School in south Dallas, she spied John McGlamery across the school hallway, and as she often told it, said to her friend, “That’s the man I am going to marry!” and a few short years later, she did at the very young age of seventeen. At that union, she embarked on a life she probably could not have imagined at that time.
Janet was a housewife when that was a noble thing to be and along the years gave birth to Lori Patricia McGlamery and Raymond James McGlamery and became the mother that everyone could only hope for. She nurtured the family, kept the house running, cooked and cleaned and supported her beloved husband while he made sure all of the family’s needs were met. The family moved from Dallas to Corpus Christi to Houston, where they settled for the rest of her life on earth.
In Houston, her children grew up and Janet decided to take a job in a medical practice where her organizational skills and kindness made her a perfect fit to run a doctor’s office, doing the scheduling, filing and any other tasks that were necessary. In this position, as in all of her life, she was loved by everyone she met, and her circle of friends expanded quickly. She became indispensable and held the position for many years, keeping all of her friends she met along the way until the practice closed.
Armed with her wide-ranging knowledge of the medical field and the needs of doctors and patients, she established her own business, Daisy Medical Supply, and found great joy in being a working woman in charge of her own business. She loved being an independent business owner and had many wonderful years fulfilling the needs of others, which was a theme throughout her life.
John and Janet began traveling in the early seventies and the travel bug bit hard. Their early trips to Mexico soon expanded to South America and then on to Paris, the Netherlands, Alaska, London and many points in-between. Later they would find joy in traveling across the United States with many friends in their Winnebago. She found her true passion in traveling, meeting new people and enjoying every adventure along the way.
As she grew into her senior years, she suffered great sadness at the loss of her brother, her daughter and her husband of sixty years, all in the span of eight months. Her innate strength gave her the will and energy to keep going, even as her health deteriorated and she lived on until she was taken from this world at the age of eighty-five. By all accounts, she lived a beautiful life. Her many friends and family are in deep mourning at her passing but are grateful and honored to have had her in their lives.
Janet is survived by her son, Raymond McGlamery, her grandchildren, Jackson McGlamery, Giuliana D’Egidio, Brooke Galbincea and Justin Portugal, and her great-grandchildren Aidan Galbincea, Emma Galbincea and Micah Galbincea and her constant companion and pet, Charlie.
Janet will be laid to rest with her husband at Forest Park Cemetery in Houston, Texas on Friday in a private service for immediate family only. Due to the current health crisis, we are requesting that no flowers be sent, but donations can be made to American Heart Association in her honor. There will be a celebration of Janet’s life when gatherings are allowed, the time and place to be determined once the crisis has passed. The family knows how hard this is for everyone who loved her and ask for understanding and patience at this time.
