

Janice Melissa Madsen, née Gordon, wife of Eric Lunde Madsen and mother of Scott Gordon Madsen, was born on 16 January 1961 in Kirkuk, Iraq. Daughter of the late Stewart Gordon and the late Edith Joy Gordon, Janice passed away unexpectedly early on the morning of January 2, 2025, in Breckenridge, Colorado.
Janice spent her early years in Iraq, Bahrain and the UK, moving to Saudi Arabia after college to forge her career as a medical secretary in Tabuk, and later with ARAMCO. Janice took a keen interest in sports and health participating in SCUBA diving, running, and cycling. She was active in the Dhahran and Ras Tanura communities as a running coach and cycling instructor, organizing runs and classes. She trained and ran in a number of marathons and marathon relays. Janice and Eric met in Saudi Arabia and were married in Jan’s home City of Aberdeen, Scotland in 1990, welcoming their son, Scott, in December 1996.
In 2016, the family relocated from Ras Tanura to Houston to begin retired life stateside with its community of Aramcons and many friends. Both Eric and Jan, being used to finding their feet in new territories, threw themselves into their new life and enjoyed the many opportunities that Houston offered. Janice loved living in Houston, with Memorial Park on her doorstep, and in 2022 Janice was so proud to become a US Citizen.
Jan is survived by her husband Eric and son Scott, her sister Sheenagh Gordon-Hart, aunt Christine Duncan, and uncle Alistair Phillip. She was much loved by her extended family and countless friends for her joie de vivre, and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life for Janice will be held Monday, February 3, 2025 at 10:00 AM in the Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77024 with a reception following immediately in the Event Room.
