Janie Fernandez, born on December 28, 1949, in Brookshire, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Janie was the cherished daughter of the late Santana Fernandez and Simona Corona Fernandez. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Paz Fernandez, Pablo Fernandez, Sam Fernandez, and Julian Fernandez.
Janie was a devoted mother whose greatest joy in life was her family. She leaves behind her beloved children: Michele Contreras (Mike Contreras), Ray Cervantes (Geraldine Cervantes), Ruben Cervantes (late Angela Cervantes), Raquel Salazar (Ruben Salazar), and Anthony Cervantes (Catarina Cortez).
She was a proud grandmother to Jacob Cervantes (Joanna), Samantha Salazar, Sabrina Salazar (Abraham Arroyo), Ruben Salazar Jr., Stevan Contreras, and Nicholas Contreras. She was also blessed with three treasured great-grandchildren—Nayeli Aranda, Arabella Arroyo, and Isaiah Arroyo—who brought immense joy to her life.
Janie worked for many years with Enron and later EOG Resources, where she built lasting friendships and earned the respect of her colleagues through her dedication and strong work ethic.
She is survived by her loving siblings: Joseph Fernandez (Todd), Mary Gutierrez (late Luis), and Vera Varela (Val). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Janie will be remembered for her strength, kindness, generosity, unwavering love for her family, and her unique sense of humor. Her warm heart, caring nature, and enduring spirit touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, laughter, and family unity that will continue through the generations she helped shape.
Although she is no longer with us, her love, wisdom, and beautiful memories will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
