Jannis "Jan" Olivia Rodriguez went to be with our Lord and Savior, peacefully at home, on April 13 2026. Jan was born on April 24, 1937, at home, in Houston, Texas to James Roland Matranga and Lillian Glass Matranga. Jan was raised by her grandmother, Eula Matranga, who she lovingly referred to as Mother. She was the oldest of two children. Her younger brother, Michael Joseph Matranga, preceded her in death in March of 1995.
Jan had a deep love for and relationship with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who knew her as Grammy, and they all returned that love.
Jan also had many loving and devoted family, friends, nieces and nephews. In her golden years, she thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pumpkins." Jan also loved her Houston Astros.
Her quickness to smile, sense of humor, kindness and eagerness to help anywhere she could will be sorely missed.
Jan attended Hamilton Jr. High School in Houston, TX and graduated from Fredricksburg, TX High School in 1955. Jan attended Nursing School in San Antonio, TX prior to meeting the absolute love of her life, Danny Rodriguez. She remained his loyal, dedicated and steadfast wife and life companion until his death in 2007.
Jan had a love and passion for ballet, tap and jazz dancing in her younger years. Later in life, she replaced that passion with gardening and collecting folk art and vintage/antique items. This love was on display for all to see in the home she so dearly loved in the Houston area.
Jan spent most of her adult life working in pathology at the original Memorial Baptist Hospital. She continued her career at Memorial after they merged with Herman Hospital. Throughout her career, she developed long lasting friendships with many of her co-workers.
Jan's life long friend, aside from her husband, was Donna Weldon Zander, and the two were the original "Thelma and Louise." Her dear friend Donna preceded her in death.
Jan is survived by her loving son, Michael Moore and his wife, Natalie and their children, Jennifer Dawson, Heather Collins and husband, Joshua, Megan Gazaway and husband, Zach and Daniel Moore and wife, Samantha. Jan is also survived by her great grandchildren Kaylee, Cayden, Cady, Gabby, Colton, Mack, Maddie and Eli. Jan is also survived by her half siblings Charlotte Tidwell and Jesse Matranga.
Jan will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews. Special mention to her niece, Kimberly Fritz, for the special care given in her time of need. Jan will also be missed by her many friends and neighbors who she adored. A special thank you to friends Candy Bales, Conrad and Margo Adams and Alex and Sandra Kobayashi.
Jan's final earthly resting spot is beside her husband. She rejoined her mother, father, brother and many other family members at the Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery where a graveside service will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 13747 Eastex Freeway Houston, Texas 77039. Officiating will be Harris County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant and Chaplin Shannon Bowdoin.
