Jarrett Michael Lamb, aka (jmlSlayer and LG [Little Guy]), was pronounced dead at age 19, Monday June 7, 2010 at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital from complication of dialysis in Houston, TX. He was also born at this same hospital November 16, 1990, delivered by Dr. Eric Estrada.
His is survived by his parents, Michael Lynn Lamb and Janet Margaret Tessier-Lamb, Grandparents, Dillard and Myrtle Foil, Aunt & Uncle, John Wayne Whitehurst & Dolorise Ann Tessier, as well as, his pets; Rocky Balboa aka Bobo, Livvy, Lucky; 5 Leopard Gecko’s, 1 Kenya Sand Boa and 2 Bearded dragons.
Jarrett graduated from Cypress Falls High School, June 5, 2010, which was one of his major achievements, due to the fact that he was a homebound student for a majority of his school years. During this time, he also became a member of Face book, GeckoForms.net and HerpNation.com, during this trying time we discovered that he had over 200 friends that were also into Herbing, stunt dirt bikes, tattoos and skate boarding. When reading all of the responses that came in once the news of his death had been posted, we discovered that he help with designing webpage’s, gave advice on various subjects, supported and laughed with his friends on-line. They all responded stating that they loved him, thought of him a brother and will miss him.
Aside from the above achievements, he was disappointed that he was not able to join the US Marines, go to college or even find a part-time position because of his Chronic Granulomatous Disease. He hated the fact that he could not be out in public without fear of catching something as simple as a head cold, which would turn into pneumonia and he would end up in the hospital weeks at a time.
Despite the fact that he couldn’t attend school as a “normal” student, he was able to make friends within his neighborhood. These boys would take turns hanging out each other houses, playing video games; sneaking out to get tattoo’s, going to parties and basically be boys that tried their parent’s patience. They treated Jarrett like a bother and made sure that he was always including in their plans and God-forbid if someone messed with him, they were his back up. His illness did not bother them and they supported him at all times.
And when thinking about that, it brought to mind another achievement that Jarrett never thought about, but manage to accomplish, is the fact that he was able to help his doctors at Texas Children’s Hospital make advancements in their research of his Chronic Granulmatous Disease. He was a very special child, always walking to the beat of his own drum and stating his own opinions. He would not respond to the medicines that were given to the CGD patients before him, his cultures would not grow like those before him. It would be months before the lab would call and say, they figured out what the problem was and everyone would be, too late, we already figured it out, but thanks any way. With these challenges, his doctors had to research medicines that were not approved by the FDA, because these meds were not approved Jarrett agreed to be a guinea pig to see which ones would work and which ones wouldn’t. Being brave enough to try something new on himself, he helped make way for those who followed behind him to have the medicines available to them, have the doctors understand that there is always one patient that will not be the norm and have to think outside the box. This he accomplished so they wouldn’t have to go through the same trials that he did.
Jarrett was a very bright individual. He was intelligent beyond his age when it came to understanding that the world wasn’t in black and white, but all shades of gray; he understood that you had to do your research to find the truth; regardless if it was something that you didn’t wanted to hear or read. He understood about death and wasn’t afraid to die, but he wanted to live and do all the things that any 19 year old boy wanted. Most of all he wanted to be loved and love those he came into contact with. And he is loved, by those he knew personally as well as those he just talked to on-line. Jarrett’s love is most important gift that he gave to the lives that he touched and will continue to touch when we talk to about him to our friends and family and they in turn will talk about a fearless boy that touched their hearts just by hearing his story.
