When Javier Angel Rodriguez walked into the room, those in his company felt energy, an enthusiastic spontaneity. This is just one example of whom Javy was and how he impacted those around him. He was a clever and gregarious person who always sought out the finest attributes in other people. Javy had a positive outlook in life and was a loving and kind person whom you could always count on for anything.
He was the son of Silvia and Juan Antonio Rodriguez and was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Javy was raised with one younger sibling, his sister Sonia. His family included a dog named Rusty (during early childhood), a paraket named Sky, and a dog named Buddy (during middle school years).
Javy was very family-oriented. He spent a lot time not only with his immediate family (mom and sister) but also his extended family (grandparents whom he called Mami and Papi Grande, aunts, uncles, and cousins). He was the central person in his family whom was always fun to be around; everyone was always guaranteed to have a good time. His uncles always loved to play around with him along with his cousins whom would jump in on the fun.
As a young boy, Javy was able to empathize and identify with a vast array of people and personality types. This quality drew him into a diverse group of friends and acquaintances. He was almost always the first to jump in when it came to playing games or participating in other childhood activities. Javy took part in football and was a boy scout during some of his elementary years. During his childhood years, you would always find Javy playing outside with neighborhood friends and his sister. He had a clubhouse in his backyard and started a club where he was the president, his sister the treasurer, Mylyn (neighborhood friend) the secretary, and Peter (neighborhood friend) as the advocate member. When there was no one available to play outside (because they were grounded or just not home) he would play inside with his sister playing cars, jacks, board games, Atari, or other boy games; his sister of course wanted to play dolls with Javy but he never gave in. Javy had the ability to find amusement with almost any activity he and the many childhood friends he shared might discover.
During his high school years, Javy expanded his social realm and enjoyed going out with friends. Javy was a very good student, and did well effortlessly in his courses. He was enrolled in a high school work-study program where he enjoyed working in his uncle’s body shop. He very much looked up to his uncle Eve whom gave him guidance but also showed him how to balance life with good times; something passed on from our grandfather. Javier was a junior in high school when he was involved in a tragic car accident. His career goal was to be a dentist. Giving that he was very family-oriented he most likely would have had a large family of his own. Javy was the kind of person that would work hard and take care of his family.
Javy grew up within a family that had a strong faith in God. His grandmother, Elodia Rodriguez, was the matriarch of the family’s strong faith in God and initiated the Spanish mass at St. Vincent de Paul in Houston, TX. He attended Catholic church with his mom, sister, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Javier was also an alter boy at St. Anne's Catholic Church.
Javier Rodriguez passed away on December 7, 2014 at 02:40 a.m. in his home where he grew up. He is survived by his mom, Silvia Rodriguez, sister, Sonia Rodriguez, niece, Samantha Chavez, brother-in-law, Pedro Chavez, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and best friend Pedro Huerta. Services were held at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Celebrants Father Martial F. Oya and Father Rafael Davila and was laid to rest at Forest Park Funeral Home and Cemetery in Houston, TX.
There was always a certain style and inventiveness to Javy. He was a dynamic loving person who was forever looking to celebrate the endless possibilities life had to offer. He had a knack for being clever, creative and witty, and for others, was always a joy to be around. While he was often fiercely independent, it seemed as if many others looked to Javy for inspiration, leadership, wisdom and even courage. Javy was always more than willing to share life’s experiences with his loved ones.
Javier, you will always be in our hearts!
