Jean Ann Harris passed away at sunrise on August 21, 2022 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Jean was at home in Monty’s arms and with daughters Amy and Shye Anne. Even though her own memories faded, we will always remember her as a light in our lives. Her beauty, intelligence and boundless love enriched us all. Jean was cherished by Monty, her soulmate of more than forty years. Jean is also survived by her daughter Amy and husband Ben, son Mark Jr. and wife Lana, daughter Erin, son Pat and wife Amanda, and daughter Shye Anne. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Dick, and son Rocky. Jean was a wonderful “Nana” who adored her seven grandchildren. She was also loved by many extended family members and close friends. And, Jean’s loving dog, Tucson, never left her side. She was born Jean Ann Jones on July 3, 1949 in El Paso, Texas, to parents Marjorie and Jay Jones. As a child Jean was called “Squirt”, her father’s affectionate nickname for her (which her brother Phil always used). Jean attended Oklahoma Baptist University, studying music and piano. Jean would play The Entertainer and other piano pieces for her children’s friends and at family gatherings throughout her life.
Jean was an amazing wife and dedicated mother who was highly accomplished at everything she did. Jean learned to sew as a teenager making many of Mark and Amy’s clothes and their Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. Jean loved flowers and gardening and had quite the green thumb. Her kids still have plants that she gave them over the years. Jean and Phil shared a passion for photography, and many treasured family photos were taken by her. Jean loved playing tennis in Bear Creek and was always physically active, working out or walking her dogs. She was an avid reader of distinguished novels and would always loan you a book. Jean’s gardening skills led to a job as the Plant Lady who cared for indoor landscapes in Houston offices. Networking helped her to transition to a highly successful career managing leases for large commercial properties. By the time she retired from L.J. Melody, she was a Vice President with a gorgeous office on the 44th floor. Both before and after retiring to Canyon Lake,
Jean and Monty loved to travel with family and friends.
After retirement, Jean focused on spending time with Monty, her kids, grandkids and friends. She lived her life fully, with purpose, and was selfless in her love. Jean’s love, beautiful smile, and her light will remain with all who knew her.
The family would like to thank Heidi Olayo for her love and care for Jean during her last years. Heidi helped make it possible for Jean to stay in her home until the end of her life, and that was a true blessing. Heidi is a true gift from God and the family will be forever grateful.
