Her father died when she was a toddler leaving her mother to support the family of 4 with manual labor jobs. Life was difficult but Jean had many happy memories of her youth. She graduated high school in Iowa and shortly thereafter moved with her mother to California.
In California, she met the love of her life, Al Moorhead and they married on September 2, 1955. She with 2 little girls, Susan and Terry from a previous marriage and Al with 1 daughter, Cindy from a previous marriage. Together they would forge a strong Christian family, adding Kit, Steve and Penny over the coming years.
Jean was a full-time mother but occasionally worked as an administrative assistant at an insurance agency and a security company. She devoted her life to her children’s schools, church, and family. After the children were raised, Jean and Al moved to Colorado Springs to spend their retirement years. Jean always felt that she lived in the shadow of our gregarious Dad. But after his death in 1996 she blossomed into her own person who was a glorious shining example of the power of God’s love, freely giving this love to all she met in her life.
Her faith in Christ was unwavering and her trust in God’s perfect plan for her life was strong. As she neared her 80’s her family proposed to her to move to Houston to live with her daughter Kit and her son-in-law, Dale Burchfield. Never looking back, she was excited to embark on this new adventure that God had planned for her.
In her later years, Jean was a dedicated member of St. John Lutheran Church in Cypress, Texas, and the Joyful Seekers Bible study group. She enjoyed crocheting baby afghans for the St. John Preschool ministry, working on puzzles and making handmade notecards to send out to encourage others.
She adored her 11 grandchildren and her 9 great grandchildren and was passionate about being a part of their lives and witnessing to them about Jesus and his saving grace.
Surrounded by family, she remained peacefully in her own home until she was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 17, 2021. Preceded in death by her husband, Al Moorhead and daughters, Sue Moorhead and Cindy Beadle. Survived by her son, Steve Moorhead and daughters, Kit Burchfield, Terry Spencer, and Penny Kohnert and her 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
