Jean Nolan

Nada Jean Alden Nolan (Jean) went to rest in the comfort of her Savior on November 5, 2012. She was born to John and Hattie Alden on August 9, 1922, in Denver, Colorado. While her father worked for the Department of the Interior, she and her family traveled the United States and eventually settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she attended Will Rogers High School.

During WWII, Jean worked at the War Department and at Stanlon Oil Company as an auditor. She married Richard Nolan on June 19, 1949. The family moved to Houston in 1958, where Jean, after operating a child care business, entered the nursing profession. She earned her LVN license first then went on to attend the University of St. Thomas and Houston Baptist University, earning a BS in Nursing, a BA in Psychology, and a MA in Psychology. Jean worked at The Methodist Hospital, at Memorial Southwest Hospital, and finally for All Nursing Service until she retired at the age of 85. She spent her remaining years volunteering at her church, which she did until shortly before her death.

Jean was a devout Catholic and was a loving, devoted wife and mother. She honored her husband of 57 years, caring for him until the end of his life. She raised four children, teaching them to pray and to be responsible, compassionate adults. She is survived by her children Pat, Penny, Paul and Pete Nolan, her grandchildren Alisha Herrington, Sean Nolan, Allison Kennedy, Ryan Nolan, Quinton and Robin Reedel, Fernando, Jaqueline and Richard Nolan, and several great grandchildren, as well as countless friends whose lives she enriched with her kindness, her compassion, her generosity and her humor.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2012, at 10:30 am, at St. Albert of Trapani Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Houston National VA Cemetery.
