At a very young age, Jean and her twin sister, she began attending First Baptist Church of Huntsville. They both accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior when they were 9 years old and both were baptized by Brother Henry Ward. Jean was a very talented piano player.
Jean and her twin sister, June Ward, began playing the piano at a very young age and basically were self-taught. They both sang in the church choir and had formed a trio that lasted through high school and into college at Hardin Simmons University. In Abilene, Jean and Jimmy Vann became engaged as did her twin sister. They had a double wedding in 1954. They married in First Methodist Church due to the fact their church, First Baptist Church of Huntsville, burned the week before their wedding.
Jean earned a BA from Hardin Simmons University and M.ED at Sam Houston State University. She begun her career with Spring Branch ISD in 1958 and she retired in 1989. She held many different positions while working in the Spring Branch School District. She was a teacher at Landrum Jr. High School and homebound teacher, and counselor at Spring Branch High School and Northbrook High School. After retirement from Spring Branch ISD, she was a counselor at Houston Community College for 2 years.
She was an active member of Tallowood Baptist Church Senior Adult Ministries in Houston.
Jean was very fortunate to have had three wonderful men; Jimmy Vann, George Vann, and Jimbo Vann, take such great care of her, especially during the last months of her life.
