Jerry was born February 10, 1946 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston, Texas, to Isaac and Clara Gilmore. He spent most of his life in Houston, growing up on the North Side off Jensen Drive. Jerry was the youngest of nine children, of which seven were sisters, and was spoiled by every one of them.
He was a machinist and maintenance mechanic by trade, working for Schlumberger, Igloo and Dril-Quip among others.
Jerry liked fast cars and hot rods, and won many trophies for his 1932 Ford Roadster and 1953 Studebaker Truck. Recently, he enjoyed playing Texas Hold-Em with his nephews and friends at Noah’s Ark.
But he mostly loved spending time with his sons and granddaughters, whether it was just talking on the phone or a lunch or family get-together.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, brother Bud Gilmore, and sisters Clarice Rowlan, Velma Porter, Marie Starnader, Evelyn Baker and Bobbie Louise Gilmore.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lucy, son Kevin and wife Sheryl, son Taye and wife Beth, granddaughters Erin, Kayla, Tayelor and A’asta, sisters Dorothy Hughes and husband Dave, and Barbara Moore and husband Sam, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and in-laws, friends and neighbors.
