Dr. Jerry N. Street, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher, and respected orthopedic surgeon, passed away peacefully on Saturday the 14th of February 2026, at home, surrounded by his family.
Known for his brilliant mind, steady hands, and generous spirit, Jerry built a life defined by service, curiosity, and unwavering love for those around him. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he was raised in Jasper, Texas, and was the younger of twins to his sister, Jill Beth Street.
With the precision of an orthopedic surgeon and the inquisitive mind of an engineer, he brought both excellence and compassion to everything he touched. He held his faith, his family, his friends, and his patients closest to his heart.
An Aggie and lifelong teacher at heart, Jerry believed knowledge was meant to be shared. He gave freely of his time, patience, and wisdom, understanding that gifts only matter when they are passed on. For more than fifty years, he dedicated himself to charitable service through Shriners Hospitals for Children and numerous medical mission trips, offering healing hands and a servant’s heart to those most in need. Through his example, he taught resilience, gratitude, and grace, grounding his family in faith and purpose.
A pilot, master diver, hunter, fisherman, hiker, musician, and adventurer of sea and sky, Jerry moved through the world with confidence, humility, and awe. The ocean, the air, and the outdoors were not merely places he loved; they were where he felt most alive.
The family is deeply indebted to the MD Anderson Leukemia Service, including Dr. Tapan Kadia, Alexis Geppner, PA, and Jennifer Smolcich, RN, for their compassionate care.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Monte Street and Myrtle Rae Street of Jasper, Texas and daughter, Rebecca Allison Street of Houston, Texas.
He is survived by his twin sister, Jill B. Street of Beaumont; his loving wife, Dr. Laura Jeffries of Houston; his children and their families; Dr. Jennifer Summers (Zachary) of Austin and their sons, Street and Cole; Amy Dabbs (Zeb) of Houston and their sons, Seth and Jude; Sean Cox (Mary Katherine) and their son, Brady; Brian Cox (Kim) and their sons, Owen and Morgan. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, John Jeffries (Franny) and their children Patrick, Ariana and Rex, and James Jeffries (Gina) and their son, Jeff, cousins Jim and Remmert Ricks along with many extended family members, colleagues, and dear friends.
His legacy lives on in the countless patients he healed, the students he mentored, the skies he flew, the seas he explored, and most of all, in the family he loved so deeply.
A Mass of Christian Burial is to be offered at half past ten o’clock in the morning, on Wednesday, the 11th of March at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive in Houston, where Fr. Michael Barrosa is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to join the family during a reception in the Parish Hall.
The family will gather for a private interment at Jeffries Family Cemetery in Crockett, TX.
