Jerry Webb, age 76, passed away on Friday, the 29th of September 2017, surrounded by his immediate family. He was born in Baton Rouge, La. to James and Josephine Webb. Jerry loved his Louisiana heritage but was also very happy to settle in Texas, home to his parents and his grandparents.
Jerry was a graduate of Louisiana State University and attended the University of Maryland. He and Pat were married in Baton Rouge on May 3, 1962, and then moved to Germany where he served his country in Wiesbaden at U.S.A.F. Headquarters during the Berlin crisis. After the Air Force, they returned to Baton Rouge where he joined ExxonMobil. They transferred to Houston twice, and then permanently in 1986. He retired from ExxonMobil after 32 years of service. After retirement Jerry held positions at Baylor College of Medicine, and then at the United Way of Houston for eight years.
He was an avid gardener most of his life and became a Master Gardener during retirement and helped maintain the Hermann Rose Garden. He wanted to make the world a more beautiful place for others and felt blessed to have those opportunities.
Jerry had the heart of a servant and a passion for helping others. He spent some of his happiest days volunteering at the Christian Community Service Center and at Houston Methodist Hospital where he was named volunteer of the year in 2016. Music was another one of Jerry’s passions and he enjoyed all kinds of music, especially Baroque performances.
He was a life-long Methodist, and sustained his faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, as a Stephen Minister at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. In 2013 Jerry renewed his faith in The Walk to Emmaus and he was honored to be in the company of his weekly Emmaus men's group, as well as many other Christian Methodist Men's Groups.
His soul mate and best friend was his wife Pat. They met on a blind date at age 18 which led to marriage in 1962. They were blessed with a good and happy life. He held Pat in the highest regard and loved so many things about her. She was a wonderful mother, Mimi, and an amazing homemaker. He recognized that she changed his life in all the best ways. Jerry was a devoted granddad and was so loved by his grandsons who were the light of his life.
Jerry’s personality was so endearing that he was loved by many who knew him well. He will be missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Pat, sons Brendan, Stephen and his wife Caroline and his grandsons Benjamin Thomas and Grant Edward.
