

Jessie Mae Martin Rodgers, beloved mother and treasured aunt, passed away peacefully on June 30. She and her twin brother James were born February 18, 1927 to Jesse B. Martin and Ida Stanfield Martin at their home in Sparenberg, Texas. She graduated from Sparenberg High School in 1943 and attended Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) in Lubbock, TX. It was there that she met her husband of 35 years, J.D. Rodgers. They moved to Houston in 1950 where they raised two children. Jessie spent the last 14 years of her career working for Racal Decca Survey Systems. Jessie was an avid gardener and loved to travel. She most especially loved attending the family reunion held each Thanksgiving and being the honored invitee to the Annual Cousins Reunion held each spring. She was the keeper of family stories and the collector of family photographs.
Jessie is preceded in death by her parents, all six of her siblings, her husband (1982) and her son Mark (2013). She is survived by daughter Jayne Hawley of Farmers Branch, Texas, grandsons Benjamin and Michael Hawley and by 10 nieces and nephews (17 when including spouses), 27 Great nieces and nephews and their children. She leaves behind a legacy of a quiet strength, a strong work ethic and a love of family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice.
Family visitation will be held from 3-5, Sunday July 5th and services will be held at 10 on Monday, July 6th at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.
