Jewel Frances Mills
December 19, 1935 – April 11, 2019
Jewel Frances Page Mills, 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 11, 2019. Born a coal miner’s daughter on December 19, 1935, in Powderly, KY, Jewel moved to Owensboro, KY, following the death of her parents. From there she moved to Waxahachie, TX, to attend Southwestern Bible Institute. During her time there, she met a skinny guy from Oklahoma who worked in the cafeteria. He immediately was struck by her beautiful eyes and dazzling smile. After a brief courtship, they were married on July 27, 1956. From Waxahachie, they traveled to Oklahoma while Orville attended the University of Oklahoma. He began his career with Humble Oil in 1959 in Houston. Throughout his career with Humble/Exxon, Orville was transferred to many new places. Jewel enjoyed every new adventure and set up a home for her family everywhere they went until settling in Houston for the final time in 1983. Her daughter Karen gave her a plaque that read “Love Spoken Here” that she prominently displayed in each home. It truly encapsulated what the Mills home always represented.
Jewel’s greatest joy was found in her family. She is survived by Orville Mills, her husband of nearly 63 years; her daughters Vicki Walters; Karen Walters and her husband Jake; Julie Davis and her husband Carl; her grandchildren Mason, Joel and his wife Abby, Reed, Hannah, and Elizabeth; and her great-granddaughter and namesake, Frances E’Lane.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway in Houston. Visitation is Tuesday evening, April 16 from 6:00-8:00. Funeral services are Wednesday, April 17, at 2:00 p.m. with graveside immediately following.
The family wishes to extend gratitude to the wonderful Reminiscence staff at Sunrise of Cinco Ranch who provided loving care to Jewel in her final years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Jewel Mills Legacy Business Endowment, Evangel University, 1111 N. Glenstone, Springfield, MO, 65802.

I'm so thankful to the Lord for Jewel Mills. The life that she lived and her generosity have made an impact on me, and on more people than we could begin to count. My heart is warmed at the thought that our savior is now describing to her how vast that impact has been, and she is cheering us all on as we continue the good work. I pray for God's comfort and peace with her family.
