Mrs. Hartzog was a devoted wife to the love of her life, Francis Hartzog from November 1, 1947 until May 1, 1991 when he went home to be with the Lord. She was also a devoted sister, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother.
Mrs. Hartzog spent her life as a music educator, was an accomplished musician and vocalist. She spent many years serving the Lord as a church musician, vocalist, Sunday School teacher, and any other ways she could serve within the churches. Among her many accomplishments she acted as the musician and voice coach for the Houston Police Department Gospel Quartet in the 1980s, was in the membership of numerous music teacher associations including the Houston Music Teachers Association and was named in the Who’s Who of International Music.
She is survived by her sister Donna Stadler, her daughters Elisa Dossett and Darlene Cameron, 4 grandchildren Stefany Cameron Watson, Alan Dossett, Robert Cameron, and Christena Dossett, and 9 great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents Oliver Oscar Scarborough and Clara Scarborough, her brother O. B. Scarborough and sister Doris Thompson, and her husband Francis Hartzog.
Given the current pandemic and high positivity rate in Harris County, the service will be a private graveside for family only on Tuesday, February 2, 2021. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Brenham, 302 Pahl Street, Brenham, Texas 77833 or fbc-brenham.org for the Choir/Instrument fund in memory of Jimmie Ruth Hartzog.
