Born on May 25, 1941, Jimmy served his country with pride as a Navy Corpsman from 1960 to 1964. During his service, he married the love of his life, Sugar Deaton, on January 8, 1963. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and dedication to the Porter and New Caney communities.
Jimmy and Sugar raised three children, Steve, Mike, and Rae Lynn, and Jimmy took an active role in their lives, especially through his involvement in little league sports. His passion for fostering community spirit extended far beyond his family. As a founding board member of the East Montgomery County Improvement District, Jimmy played a pivotal role in shaping the area’s development. He also served with distinction on the East Montgomery County MUD board from 2008 to 2024, contributing his time and leadership to the betterment of his community.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, James Roland and Mary Evelyn Deaton, his sister Janet Garrett, and his brother Jeff Deaton.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Sugar Deaton; his children, Steve and Christi Deaton and family, Mike and Dayna Deaton and family, and Rae Lynn and Mike McDaniel and family; four sisters; three brothers; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and dear family friends.
Jimmy will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his community, and his unwavering kindness and generosity. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the community he helped build. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 1pm followed by a celebration of life at 2pm.
