Jimmy Dale Harmon was born on December 5,1957, in Liberty Texas to Albertha and Gatta Harmon Sr. Jimmy at an early age learned about the importance of serving God and believing in the power of God. Jimmy was a highly intelligent young man. He would often be seen reading books, newspapers, reviewing sport stats and even comic books. He had a passion for learning and knowledge.
Jimmy was a gifted athlete in high school. He participated in track, basketball and football. It is fair to say football was the sport he loved the most. After graduating from high school, he received a full scholarship to Kilgore Junior College where he played football in his first year. His former high school coach was hired at Abilene Christian University (DeWitt Jones). Coach Jones awarded Jimmy a full scholarship. Jimmy transferred to Abilene Christian College his sophomore year. There he played defense for the Wildcats for three years beside his brothers (teammates) in competitive conference rivalries, playoff games/ and bowl games. He graduated from ACU with a bachelor's in education and a minor in history. Upon graduation, he received an invitation to participate in tryouts with his beloved Dallas Cowboys. This was a highlight of his life and a dream come true to have the opportunity to play sports at a professional level. After college he enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served as a combat soldier and a recruiter (Houston area) for approximately 20 years. As the years passed Jimmy became part of a beautiful family at Star of Hope. He had a quiet spirit but loved helping and assisting others. We learned he would assist with bible studies and other spiritual services at Star of Hope. Jimmy transitioned into eternity on November 20, 2022, as he was preparing to watch his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. His memories will always be cherished by his siblings James, Cynthia, Brenda, Gatta Jr., Joe, Terry, and Donna as well as nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A memorial service for Jimmy will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Crespo Navigation, 2516 Navigation Blvd., Houston, Texas 77003.
Family has requested that those attending wear Dallas Cowboys attire in honor of Jimmy D. Harmon.
