Jo Devine

Jo Devine passed peacefully in her home on the 1st of May, 2023 at the age of 92, after a long fulfilling life. Born and raised in Mississippi, she was fond of the saying “GRITS…Girls Raised In The South”.

She was married to her loving husband Dan for 57 years before his passing in 2010. They raised their family in Laurel, Mississippi and she received her Masters in education and counseling from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1969. The family moved for Dan’s positions with the University of Nebraska in Omaha, then Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. Jo was dedicated to raising her daughters Dana and Jan and was active in the Baptist church. She gave of her time and talents to many philanthropic organizations through the years.

As a bridge master she loved playing the game her entire life. Her circle of friends in the bridge group at the Trotter Family YMCA brought her much joy and laughter. Thank you all for your support and friendship as she navigated health issues toward the end of her life.

She also loved her faithful, devoted niece Lori who provided hours of care and companionship over the years.

The family greatly appreciates the service and caring given by the superb staff of Blue Star Hospice, especially Yadira.

Jo was preceded in death by her husband Dan, and her brothers; Jim and Richard Bazor. She is survived by her daughters; Jan Franco and her husband Dr. Miguel Franco and Dana Trepa and her husband John Trepa, her grandchildren; Eric Franco, Sam Sperling, Christy Sperling, and Holly Sperling, her niece, Lori Bazor and her brother in Florida, Mike Bazor and his wife Jeanie, and Michael Lynn. Dan’s sister Mildred Garland and remaining family in Mississippi.

A memorial service is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 9th of May, 2023, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Jo during a reception following the service in the adjacent grand foyer.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in her name be directed to The Trotter Family YMCA, 1331 Augusta Dr., Houston, TX 77057.
