

Joan graduated from Minden High School in Minden, Louisiana in 1950. She met Jimmy Booth at a church social and married on September 21, 1950. They moved to Houston in 1963 and she began her career at American General Insurance Company in 1966 where she worked as an executive assistant until she retired in 1993.
Joan was a kind and thoughtful person who loved spending time with her family and friends. She would light up a room with her smile. Her favorite pastimes were traveling, reading, listening to music, sewing, playing dominoes and documenting family ancestry.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband James Booth, son Gary Booth, sister Jane Grimes and son-in-law Robert Lester.
Joan is survived by her son Richard Booth and wife Debra and her daughter Carole Lester; grandchildren, Regan Schiestel and husband Adam, Aimee Dodd and husband Lance; great-grandchildren, Luca Schiestel, Larkin Schiestel, and Grant Schiestel and Coston Willoughby, Caleb Willoughby, and Mason Willoughby; niece Kelly Wood and husband Trey; great-niece Emily Payne and husband Cody and great-nephew Jonah Wood; great-great niece Violet Payne; and numerous cousins and other family members.
The family would like to thank the devoted staff at Brookdale the Heights for their exceptional care over the last four years and Good Shepherd Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joan’s honor to St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church.
Pallbearers will include Kurtis Lester, Rick Lester, Tim Manning, Adam Schiestel, James Thompson and Coston Willoughby.
A visitation for Joan will be held Friday, November 15, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pat H. Foley & Company, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. A funeral service will occur Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, 2003 W 43rd St, Houston, TX 77018. A committal service will occur Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery, 13747 Eastex Fwy, Houston, TX 77039.
