

Joan Lewis, age 65, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 22, 2010 as a result of strokes over the past 10 years. She was married to Nathaniel Lewis on December 26, 1968 in Clayton, Missouri and afterwards lived in New York City before relocating to Dallas, Texas in 1969. During those 31 years, she taught at elementary and middle school levels in the Garland Independent School District and Richland Community College before moving to Cypress, Texas in 2000 where she worked as a substitute teacher in the Cypress Fairbanks ISD. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Cypress. Her interests in life were art deco furnishings and collectibles concentrating on Humphrey Bogart, Bobby Darin, and Kevin Spacey and helping her husband show their Maltese dogs in obedience competitions over a 25 year time span beginning in 1970. She is survived by her husband, Nathaniel, and brothers, Jim and Jerry. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Friday March 26, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday March 27, 2010 in the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel 13001 Katy Freeway Houston, Texas 77079. Interment will follow in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
