Joann was born on June 13, 1946, in Cleveland, Texas, to Russell and Myrtle Pierce. She was one of five children. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Broaddus, were she enjoyed fellowship and worship with her late husband Harry. She was a hard-working woman and took tremendous pride in the years she spent as a welder at Richmond Tank Car. She was a true caregiver at heart, she spent several years as a health care aid prior to retirement. Joann’s love for her family was immeasurable, she was always there to listen and especially provide her input. She found her greatest love and joy spending time with family and friends. Through all of her accomplishments the greatest was being the best Mother and Maw Maw ever.
Joann is preceded in death by loving parents, Russell and Myrtle Pierce, her husband Harry Dee Slate of 33 years, husband of 16 years Larry Odel Allen, brothers Billy Pierce and Russell Pierce, sister Brenda Allen, brother-in-law E.J. Petterson, son-in-law George “Andy” Allen.
Joann is survived by her Daughter, Thresa Allen, granddaughter Amber her husband Jamie Campbell and great-grandchildren Jessie, Ruth, Jaydin and Jaxxon Campbell. Son Jay Dee and wife Kimberly Allen and granddaughter Samantha Vick. Daughter Kimberly and husband David Gerhard, granddaughter Elizabeth and husband Teaner Downey and great-granddaughter Charlotte Downey. Sister Shirley Peterson, brother-in-law Larry Allen, numerous nephews and nieces and extended family and friends.
She will be greatly missed. There is comfort in knowing that she is reunited with the Lord our God and her many friends and love ones that have gone before her.

The family extends a special thanks to the amazing Harbor Hospice Team (Connie, Dee, Rebecca, Debra, Elsa, Cristina and Sandra) for all the loving care and compassion that they provided over the past three years.
A visitation for Joann will be held Monday, February 19, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A Funeral Service will occur Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. The Graveside Service will occur Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 5205 S First St, Lufkin, TX 75901.
