Joanne Phyllis Horowitz

Joanne Phyllis Horowitz, age 84 passed away on Friday January 10, 2020 in Katy, Texas. Joanne was born May 26, 1935 in Hollywood, California. Joanne was a graduate of Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra, California.
Joanne met the love of her life Danny on a blind date, while Danny was attending Cal-Tech. Joanne and Danny soon became an “item“ and they wed in 1957. Shortly after their wedding, they moved to State College, Pennsylvania for Danny to attend graduate school at Penn State. It was there they started a family and had their first daughter, Beverly; followed a few years later by their second daughter, Dawn. In 1965, the young Horowitz family moved to Houston, Texas as Danny finished graduate school and accepted a job with Exxon. Shortly after settling in Texas, the family welcomed their last daughter, Lonni. Joanne dedicated her life to being a loving wife and raising her beautiful daughters.
Joanne's favorite pastimes were baking rum cakes-including having a home-based business, traveling with Danny, and growing African violet plants. Additionally in later years, she especially enjoyed going on cruises with her friends and family.
Joanne is survived by her three loving daughters, Beverly Roger, husband Harry, Dawn Powers, husband Nicholas, and Lonni Harper; five beautiful grandchildren, Brandon Flammang, Brody Powers, Cameron Powers, Pearson Harper, and Emmy Harper; her sisters Judy Kreiger, husband Stuart, and Sandra Solomon, husband Victor. She also leaves many loving family and friends.
A celebration of life for Joanne will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079. Following Joanne's celebration of life there will be a brief graveside service at Memorial Oaks Cemetery and a reception.
