

Joe grew up in the small northeast Texas farming community of LaFayette until the age of 16, when he left home to live in Dallas and attend Draughon's Business College, where he studied business and accounting. At age 22, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served as a Seabee in the Pacific theater of World War II, attaining the rank of Gunner's Mate 2nd Class before being honorably discharged in December 1945. Upon leaving the Navy, Joe proved to be a successful entrepreneur and rancher, having started numerous companies that continue to prosper. Joe's early life experiences and military service taught him hard work and determination, which served him well throughout his life.
Joe is survived by his son J. D. Reed, Jr. and his wife Karen; daughter Wanda Wolff and her husband, Mike; sons James Reed and John Reed; his grandchildren: Scot Davis and his wife, Billie; Ryan Reed and his wife, Kathleen; Dr. Kristin Reed; Joe Davis and his wife, Barbara; Adam Davis and his wife, Emily; and William Reed and his wife, Jennifer; 12 great-grandchildren: Julie, Phoenix, Austin, Katelyn, Dylan, Keegan, Lucy, Lauren, Bella, Patrick, Hallie and Maddie; his nephew, Dwayne Henson and his wife, Laura; and his long-time companion, Beverly Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Verda Collins Reed, and his sisters, Vesta Fielder, Ronalda Henson and Jeanette Dunn.
Joe is leaving an enduring legacy, having taught his children and grandchildren the value of hard work, honesty, friendship, and a love of the outdoors. He is greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
