On December 17, 2020, Joel Gary Galloway, 81, entered into heaven after a 20-day battle against corona virus. He is preceded in death by his lovely wife, Judy, who passed away on December 3rd. The family embraces the pain of losing both Joel and Judy but will celebrate knowing they have entered the gates of heaven hand-in-hand. Joel is also preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Jack Hurlbut.
Joel Gary was born on January 5, 1939, to Claude and Jewel (Dubose) Galloway of Houston, Texas. Joel played many sports but was particularly fond of the Aldine Mustang’s football team. After graduation, Joel married Judith Ann Robison on August 28, 1959. In his early years, Joel operated Galloway’s Auto Supply and coached little league baseball and football teams. In 1993, Joel and Judy moved to Huntsville, Tx, to a place he could deer hunt off his back porch. At 75, Joel became a Walker County Master Gardner and he always had a passion for his yard and gardens. He had a long-standing relationship with God and was very blessed.
Family was the pivotal essence of Joel’s life. He was proud to be the patriarch of the family and a role model who was humble and kind. Joel is survived by his three children: Theresa (Teri) Lynn Arnold and husband Mark, Michael (Mike) Hobby Galloway and wife Faye, and Kristi Kay Galloway. He was the loving older brother of his three sisters, Gail Hurlbut, Gloria Marshall and Mary Frances Matthews.
He loved his family – especially the grandchildren: Blake Arnold and wife Sara, Jillian Galloway Tisdel and husband Brad, Tessa Galloway, Jake Derkowski and Bari Derkowski; and, four great grand-daughters, Lola Arnold, Evie Arnold and Sophie Arnold and Eden Edwards-Derkowski. “I wish grandpas never died.”
