John Travis Beadles

November 23, 1942November 7, 2020

John Travis Beadles, age 77, of Bacliff, Texas passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2020 in Galveston Texas. John grew up in Houston on Doverside where he spent many years making friends and trouble; the kind normal boys would get into. Being the baby of the family, he was always looked after by his sisters and brothers. He went into the Navy as a Merchant Seaman and was honorable discharged after an injury. John spent most his life doing many different jobs. You could call him John of all trades. He was a truck driver for a plumbing company in Houston, upholster for Sunnyland in Houston, and had his own upholstery shop in Bacliff. He also was a carpenter when his older brother needed help. John’s favorite pass time was putting puzzles together with his family. He enjoyed cooking. He always had a way of saying things unfiltered. It could make you laugh or just shake your head but that was John. He was preceded in death by his parents: William R Beadles Sr. and Elsie L. Beadles, his sister Louise Wilson, and his brother William R Beadles Jr. He is survived by his sisters Patricia A Beadles Fair, Mary A Beadles Martin and brother Patrick H Beadles Sr, Sister in law Merry Culler Beadles and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to all the people that helped make him comfortable during his time of passing; the doctors and nurses at UTMB, The Crowders, his niece, Jan Faust and family friend, Sue Faust. Visitation and Services for John will be held on November 19, 2020. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Service will start at 12:00 pm at Pat H. Foley funeral home 1200 W 34th St, Houston, TX 77018. The committal service and burial to follow at 2:00 pm, Brookside Memorial Park 13401 Eastex Fwy, Houston, TX 77039.

Johnny was quite a character. There were times I felt like ringing his neck, but most of the time he was doing for others. He re-cushioned the bench and chairs of an old steel table we had bought at the old Globe Store. After several years it needed some tender loving care. He replaced the cushions with bright yellow vinyl and repainted the table. That table, bench and chairs is still being used with the same cushions. It is no longer in the family, another family loved it so much that they put their request in for them to be the next owners.
Johnny, I'm not sure that I will be using your sewing machine to do upholstery, but I will be using it for denim quilts. Thank you so much for it and showing me how to use it. I miss and love you.

I will always remember all the times when Uncle Johnny would come over to the house to go swimming. During the summer he would always shake like he was cold & everyone else would be fine, but the one time we went swimming in the winter he didn’t shake one bit! Not sure if I will ever understand that!! I will miss you Uncle Johnny.
