An Army veteran, John served in both France and Scotland. During his military service he honed his cooking skills and as a true explorer he took advantage of the trains to explore Europe. After the Army, John attended college and worked for the Ford Motor Company in Cleveland, Ohio.
On June 6, 1964, he married Betty Jean Beury (Servis). John and Betty never parted after the day they were married. From there, John began his career as an insurance claims adjuster which brought him to Houston, culminating in owning his own company, servicing clients both in the U.S. and internationally.
John was predeceased by Betty in 2003 and nephew Robert Michael Hale in 1977.
A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew and friend, John is survived by his three children, his and Betty’s cherished Granddaughter, and his two baseball loving sisters; daughter Susan L. Beury, son John D. Beury (Susan T.), son Carl S. Beury (Pat), granddaughter Lauren T. Beury, sisters Joan Harris (Dale) and Carol B. Rothman, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Like his Father, John was a Master Mason, Shriner, and member of the Scottish Rite for over 50 years. John was very active in the Grand Lodge of Texas Temple No. 4. Multiple times a week he would cook for gatherings of his fraternity of Masons.
John loved sports, especially baseball and the great Jim Brown, whom he would always proclaim as the greatest running back who ever lived. He also loved the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M, held football season tickets for over 30 years, and never missed a March-In.
A memorial service and interment will be held 1000-1200 February 17 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77099. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of John Beury can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or Shriners Hospital For Children.
