Recognized as one of the premier high school trombone players in the State of Texas, John enlisted with the US Air Force and went on to complete his higher education at the University of Texas. Upon completion of his Masters in Public Accounting he was hired by Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co, which would later become KPMG. Connections formed in his time at Peat Marwick would follow him throughout his professional life and lead to executive roles at Heights Savings and Loans, among others. John excelled professionally but ultimately found fulfillment in his great love and long-time wife, Gerry Hoover.
John was renowned for his dry sense of humor, intellect and passion for education. He used his gifts to serve those he loved and his life provided a foundation that changed the trajectory of our family. He will be greatly missed.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Cleda and Martin Hoover, his wife, Gerry Hoover, his three sons, Sonny, Ray and Gevan Vann, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
“Those who have a 'why' to live, can bear with almost any 'how'. – Viktor Frankl
