John Paul Irvin lived 54 years as a devoted son, brother, husband, nephew, father, mentor, friend, officer, and man of God—a man whose love and dedication will be cherished forever.
A Life Well Lived
Born on September 29, 1970, to Elen Anthony and Helen Virginia Irvin, John was raised with strong values of faith, family, and service. As a student in the Houston Independent School District, he excelled both academically and athletically, particularly in football.
He graduated from Kashmere Gardens High School before continuing his education at the University of Houston, where he earned his degree in 1993.
John’s passion for service led him to a career in law enforcement. He was commissioned as a police officer on January 26, 1994, and later joined Service Corporation International (SCI) in 1997, where he dedicated 26 years of service.
In 2017, he continued his calling to protect and serve by joining the Waller County Sheriff’s Department, where he remained until his well-earned retirement after years of dedicated service.
John, for his unwavering dedication to law enforcement, was honored with the prestigious President’s Service Award, recognizing his years of invaluable service to the Houston community and the nation.
Faith and Family
John was a man of deep faith, leading his family to worship at Fallbrook Church. His boundless love for his family was evident during holidays and family vacations, where he wholeheartedly devoted himself to creating cherished memories.
He met the love of his life, Chinita Irvin, in 1990, and together they built a beautiful marriage of 31 years. They were blessed with their beloved son, Elan Jonté-Anthony Irvin.
John is survived by his loving wife, Chinita; his son, Elan; and his siblings, Freddie Jackson Jr., Charles Anthony, and Margie Anthony.

A visitation for John will take place at Fallbrook Church, 12512 Walters Road, Houston Texas 77014 from 10am until 11am.
The funeral will commence at 11am until 12:30pm.
