John Heat Klam, age 67, of Houston, Texas passed away on Thursday August 30, 2018. John was born October 2, 1950 in Siem Reap, Cambodia. On March 13, 1975, he married the love of his life, Mary Phoeuy Klam and together they lovingly raised three sons.
John had a deep seeded passion for learning which led him to pursue a graduate degree and become a well respected professor in his home country of Cambodia. When his homeland fell to communism, he knew his educational status would jeopardize the lives of his family; therefore, he made the ultimate sacrifice to flea everything he knew in order to save his family and give them a better life. Known as the patriarch of the family, he along with his brother led his family safely to the United States. Continuing his passion for learning, he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Lamar University. His entrepreneurial drive contributed to a highly successful career in the world of business machines where he later became a sales manager. That ambition and drive ignited his quest to become a business owner where he owned and ran an Asian grocery store in the Heights for several years before moving on to owning/franchising donut stores around town until his passing. In addition to the donut business, he also established an income tax preparation business to offer tax solutions to his fellow Khmer community. He was such an incredibly kind, compassionate, encouraging, supportive, and loving soul. He was highly respected and very accomplished among the Khmer community and will be dearly missed. To know John was to know love and compassion.
John Klam is survived by his loving wife, Mary Phoeuy Klam; his son, Thai Klam and his spouse, Xochitl Valdez along with his grandchildren Sebastian, Ava, Isabella, and Jayden; his son, Rock Klam and his spouse Amanda Klam, along with his grandchildren Elin, Kaylin, and Madylin; and his son, Peacely Klam. John is also survived by three siblings: sister, Phuoth Klam, and two brothers, Kemdy Klam, and Lohn Dy, and their respective spouses, Linda and Sokha, along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
