

He is survived by his wife, Martha Jane Garlick McElroy, of Houston, Texas; children, Ted and Susan McElroy of Houston and Bryan, Texas, Sharon and Steve Mayo of Houston, Texas and Judy McElroy of Katy, Texas; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Natalie and Danny Blazei and their daughter Sadie of Houston, Texas, Ally and David Saxe and their children Micah and Laurel of Houston, Texas; Heather, Patrick and Daniel Mayo of Houston, Texas; Kim and Brandt Moffat and their daughter Hanna of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; Shannon McElroy of Austin, Texas; Michelle and Eric Larson and their children, Brittany and Mitchell of Katy, Texas; and Missy and Shane Marvin and their children Grant and Kate of Richmond, Texas.
John proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. He served from June 1944 to October 1946 and was a member of “Patton’s Army”. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. After his time in the service John attended and graduated from Texas Tech College with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering in 1948. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honor Society). He retired from Chevron Texaco on April 1, 2002, after 50 plus years of service at the age of 80.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, August 11, 2011, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel, on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
