To the man that stood beside me and my children for 39 years and my children knew him as their stepdad- Happy Father's Day. We love you John.

I played ice hockey with John for the past few years at the Aerodrome. We’d talk airplanes/Toyota trucks/hockey/whatever and always got along. He was a welcome face at those first few drop-ins when I didn’t know anyone in that locker room.  It’d help him with the nets or pick up the pucks or try to do whatever to took to make his day smoother. I will miss him.

Thanks for all the good times we had, and always being a mentor figure to me.

Steve knew John "Houdini"  for over 40 years back from his locksmith days doing the locks at All Star Audio stores where Steve worked. He moved in across the street from us in 1989.  They reconnected and we became friends. We watched over each other's houses, animals, took packages in for each other and just kept an eye out for each other.   Steve and him served on the HOA together for a while and then later John became president.   We shared our expertise in different areas. John was a great neighbor and friend and person. Hard to go outside and look over at his house and know he is no longer there.  He will be missed very much.

John was a familiar face at the drop ins that I’ve been going to since I was a young kid, any time I walked into the rink the first person I was looking forward to seeing was John. Now being 22 a couple of months ago John, some other friends of ours and I had lunch after a drop in. He shared great stories and we all enjoyed each other’s company. I know that myself and many others will miss him greatly.

I was John Rankin's friend for 39 years. I have been staying with John for the last 2 years because my best friend passed away, and I lived in her home in San Leon, Texas on the water.

A lot of his neighbors know me as John's friend, and they are stopping by and expressing their condolences because he was a great president of the HOA and always reached out to help them under any circumstances.

Kudos to you John, for being the best President of the Kirkwood Country HOA ever.

I will miss you forever. You were a good and kind man John.

When I was a kid, I didn't have a hero, so I would say, Superman. I didn't think that anyone was worthy of such a title. So we moved into this Apartment Complex, and it had a "lake" on it. That's where I met John. He let me play video games on his Computer, made me chocalate shakes. He was like a big kid, in a adult body.  After a while, he started dating my Mom, and that's where Stepdad came into our titled role. He'd say you tell them that your Stedad told you this, when I got into trouble at school. From the age of 10 to 50 that man was there for me. He never let me go hungry, or homeless. He might not of liked hearing me struggle through trying to express myself, due to my disability, but he remained a Mentor, "Stepdad", and most important to me a friend. Within the past year, I told him he was my Hero, and that I loved him. Typical John, responded with an enthusiastic thumbs up, that's it. I will always remember the good times, running for parachuted men falling from the sky. Going to movies, in the afternoon, sneaking in candy from the house. The buzzer has sounded John, the Hockey games over, its time to go home. Your friend forever, John Corbin.

John was known for his one legged shot. Typically it was always high and to the right and would never yell FORE. But hey not too many 70 years olds played Hockey. RIP Captain John you’re gonna be dearly missed.

John was known for his yelling on the Ice. “Let’s Go!” to start the game to “Hit Em!” and “Get off the ice!” I know we’re all gonna miss him and all the yelling.

John was the captain of Drop-In’s and the captain of team dark. John and Mitch would look over the list before the games and make the teams. He’s laughing at me here cause team dark was winning 10-1

John and his good buddy TC Lewis at Hockey Day In Houston. John was passionate about his Hockey and was always seen around the rink helping out and making sure things ran smoothly.

My best male friend for 39 years.
