John resided in the greater Houston area for most of his life and graduated from Westbury High School in 1972. He attended Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin and Blinn College before starting in the plastics industry, working for Weed Eater in Houston, TX. John continued his career in plastics by building a business in 1981 that he ran successfully for 44 years. John was very dedicated to his profession with many well-respected mentors and friends in the industry.
John was a master Mason for more than 25 years at the Sugar Land 1141 Lodge in Texas and a member of the Scottish Rite. John and his wife, Jan, grew up down the street from each other in Houston, TX, meeting in 1963. They were later married on December 27th, 1975, and just celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.
John’s favorite past time was visiting the ranch in Centerville, TX and enjoying the outdoors, including hunting and fishing with family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Henry Snell II and Vera Belle Simmons Snell. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jan Elaine Daniel Snell of Fulshear, TX; his children, John Ryan Snell and wife Dana, Taylor Daniel Snell, Patrick James Snell and wife Rowley; and his cherished grandchildren, Parker, Avery, Owen, Reese, and Maeve Snell. He is also survived by his brothers, James “Jim” Robert Snell and Arthur “Rusty” Henry Snell III, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be family: Scott Santana, Jason Tarbox, Travis Snell, Eddie Snell, Richard “Ricky” Snell, Cody Daniel, and friends: Matt Stevens & Luke Hay. An evening visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home and Cemetery. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 6, with a graveside service to follow. Prior to the funeral, there will be a reception from 11:30AM to 1:30PM at Blue Agave Cantina (near I-10 W. & Hwy 6 S.).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 1845, mail checks to “Troop 1845” 5123 Jackson Ponds Ct, Sugar Land, TX 77479. Donations may also be made by PayPal to the Masons of Sugar Land 1141 Lodge.
