He was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 10, 1932.
John graduated from the University of Colorado, and had a career in advertising with Gulf Publishing Co. He had a passion for advertising, cooking, baseball, and hockey.
He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Sykes; mother, Helen Sykes; and sister, Linda Bryant.
John is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Burkholder; son, Dr. John R Sykes and wife Cindy; grandchildren, Alyson Grace Burkholder, Josh Sykes, Holly Elisabeth Burkholder, and Chelsea Sykes; and his nephews, David Buck, Stephen Kelly, and Michael Kelly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 10:30 am at St Cecilia Catholic Church 11720 Joan of Arc Dr, Houston, TX 77024 with a Rite of Committal to follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.
