He was born in Winfield, AL on July 6, 1918, the seventh child of the union of Joel Bankhead Trimm and Ethel Missoura Estes.
His career began as co-owner of the Silvey-Trimm Cotton Gin in Falkville, AL. He received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army after a short service in 1944. He came to Houston at the age of 26, bought a cowboy hat, formed John Q. Trimm, Inc. and started work. During the years he operated that company he built many subdivisions throughout the Greater Houston area. His footprint is all over the growth of our town. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Houston and had been a Master Mason of the Galena Park Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.
He loved University of Alabama football, race horses and golf. Even though he was a duffer he had two hole in ones. He was blessed in the last 30 years of his life to have had the love of Grace Shoup.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Judith Louise at age 4; his five brothers: Homer, Alfred, Harry, Joe and James Earl “Cotton;” and his four sisters: Flora Bostick, Ruby Selcer , Mary Lou Segars and Willie Peterson. He is survived by his wife, Grace Shoup; his son, John Q. Trimm, Jr. of Houston, TX; two daughters: Debra (Dennis) Booth of Hartselle, AL and Terri (Mike) Milazzo of Birmingham, AL; Ms. Shoup’s children: Gwen Sommerville of Wildwood, MO and Stephen (Jill) Shoup of Cedar Park, TX; the mother of his children, Jean Taylor; his sister, Marie (Tom) Wallace of Millers Creek, NC; five grandsons: Mason, John Q., III, Mike, Jeremiah and Alex; two granddaughters: Dena and Leslie; nine great-grandsons: Justin, Seth, Mathew, Kyle, Aaron, Adam, Cooper, Maddix and Wyatt; four great-granddaughters: Taylor, Alyvia, Tristan and Evelyn; and numerous loving and loved extended family, nephews, nieces, other relatives, wonderful neighbors and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 2:30 PM in the chapel at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road, Houston, TX 77055. A reception will follow the service at a venue to be announced.
At his request burial will be in the City Cemetery at Falkville, AL. A graveside service will be held at a time yet to be determined. The family in Alabama will be notified.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Boulevard, Houston, TX 77030.
