John Paul Ubernosky was born on June 23, 1956, in Houston, Texas, to Fay Beaty Ubernosky and Edwin Lee Ubernosky. From the time he was young, Paul had the heart of a cowboy and the soul of a storyteller. He grew up with a love for the land, the animals, and the people around him—and he carried that love throughout his life.
In 1974, Paul joined the United States Coast Guard, serving until 1978. His time in service brought him not only pride but lifelong friendships that he treasured dearly.
Paul was the kind of man who could strike up a conversation with anyone and walk away with a new friend. He was known for his quick wit, a good laugh, and the stories he told—each one with that special sparkle in his eye. He worked hard, never shied away from a challenge, and lived life with a mix of grit and humor.
He had a few constants in life: working cattle, bringing flowers to his mother, enjoying a good Philly cheesesteak, and making sure everyone around him had a good time.
Paul’s legacy is carried on by his loving family: his mother, Fay; sister, Janet; brother, Byron; his children—Mandy and her husband Matt, child Khai; Burton and his fiancée Chelsea, children Kylynne, Kagen, Korbin, Klaira, and grandchild Kendal; Amber and her fiancée Clayton, children Allison and Marian; Jason and his wife Amy, children Jason Carol and Ava; and John Michael. He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Lee.
Paul touched the lives of many, and his memory will live on in the stories told, the laughter shared, and the bonds of family and friendship he helped create.
"Uva uvam vivendo varia fit" — “A grape changes color when it sees another grape.” Like the grapes, we are changed by those we encounter, and Paul changed us all for the better.
