Johnnie Doris Richmond

Johnnie Doris Nickerson Richmond, aka “JD, Granny, GG”, was born on August 23, 1934 in Livingston, Texas to parents Fay King and David Nickerson. After the death of her biological mother, Willie Mae

Nickerson became the mother to Johnnie that she never knew. Johnnie spent her early years in Fifth Ward Texas until her family later moved to Trinity Gardens. She graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School.

During her early years, Johnnie was an active member of Gospel Hill Baptist Church. After graduating in 1952, she married Herbert Richmond Sr. Johnnie was an avid reader. She never missed the opportunity to learn, share knowledge, and offer words of encouragement. She enjoyed singing, dancing, and sewing. Her working years included S. H. Kress and Co. and Woolworth. She retired from Woolworth after 30+ years.

Johnnie loved the Lord and spent many years serving in the church. She was a member of Gospel Hill Baptist Church, Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Greater Zion Baptist Church, and Bella Vista Baptist Church. She was an active member, part of the Sunday School Vanguard Class, and Ministers' and Deacon’s Wives Ministry of Bella Vista until her health no longer allowed her to attend church. Johnnie Doris Richmond entered eternal rest on June 25, 2025.

She was preceded in death by Fay King (mother), David and Willie Mae Nickerson (parents), and David Richmond (son). At the age of 90, Johnnie memories will be cherish by her husband Herbert Richmond, Sr., 3 children, Darwin Richmond, Toni Richmond Courett (husband Ray), Herbert “Shack” Richmond, Jr. (wife Dafrie), 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A visitation for Johnnie will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 10 AM to 11 AM at Bella Vista Baptist Church, 803 East 36th Street Houston, Texas 77016. The funeral will immediately follow from 11 AM to 12:30 PM, The committal will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 1 PM to 1:30 PM at Paradise Funeral Home & Cemetery North, 10401 W Montgomery Rd, Houston, TX 77088.
