On March 14, 1981 a beautiful child was born in Brookings South Dakota. Her parents named her Jonell and gave her the middle name of Kristin. Jonell Kristin Beals, a great name. Jonell was an amazingly smart child and always wanted to learn new things as she grew up. She was known as Nell among family and friends sometimes even Nelli. Jonell grew up becoming a beautiful, smart, funny, and loving person.
Jonell went to grade school in Albuquerque, NM, then home schooling, and graduated from Marshalltown High School in Marshalltown Iowa. Jonell decided she’d had enough school and wanted to experience life.
For the next few years, Jonell worked in the service industry in various places, working with people. Jonell liked being around people and listening to their stories. After talking with her, many of these people became friends. Jonell lived in various places in Iowa, moved to Klamath Falls OR, then San Diego CA, Asheville NC, Ocala, FL, Tampa FL, and most recently in Houston TX. Jonell moved to Houston to be able to afford to go to college by living with her parents while going to school. Jonell excelled in school a couple of degrees from Lonestar College then transferred to the University of Houston to get a BS and even talked about getting her PhD when COVID happened, and her schooling was put on hold.
Jonell recently had some medical emergencies and was recovering well, talking about going back to school maybe in a new field, still getting that PhD and starting to figure out her purpose. Mark Twain once said, “The Two Most Important Days in Your Life are the Day You are Born, and the Day You Find Out Why.” Jonell was finding out why.
Jonell’s interests and hobbies included Mermaids, Legos, Music, Movies, shiny objects she found on walks, Motorcycles, writing, and many other things. Jonell enjoyed life and living.
On May 30, 2022, Jonell did not wake up, she had been called to Heaven, why, we don’t know but we believe her “why she was born” is to be as an Angel.
Jonell’s trip to heaven is paved by those that went before her, her Uncle Gary Beals and Grandpa Laddie Base, Grandpa and Grandma Varner and Barb Beals, and Grandpa Myrum Mikkelsen.
Those that know Jonell and are celebrating her life today are many, they include her parents Jim and Jan, her sister and brother-in-law, Jacqui (Dan) Powell. Jonell became very close to her sister’s daughter, Róisín sharing stories, mermaid stuff, and being silly. Her Grandma Sylvia Mikkelsen. Jonell has Aunts and Uncles celebrating her life, Aunt Sue Beals, Aunt Deb (Russ) Bruns, Aunt Cindy (Jerry) Evert, Aunt Vicki (Matt) Stephens, Uncle Rob (Rhonda) Beals and 13 cousins.
Jonell will be forever in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers. Jonell will be loved forever by those close to her that loved her and miss her and her beautiful smile so much.
